Introduction to 2D Relative Motion

Learning Intentions

  • To learn how to calculate the velocity produced by motion in two different directions.

Notes

So far, we have solved relative motion problems where the vectors we are adding together are along the same axis.

We will now look at relative motion problems where the vectors are not parallel to each other.

Worksheet - 2D Relative Motion

Planes have to deal with 2D relative motion problems whenever there is a crosswind. This can result in the plane appearing to fly sideways.
